How stem cell therapy may help with Crohn’s disease
Crohn’s disease is an immune system that keeps the digestive tract inflamed when nothing is there to fight. Over time that inflammation thickens and scars the bowel wall, and can narrow it or open tracts through it. Medication suppresses the immune response and eases symptoms; it does not settle the inflammation in the gut itself.
- Mesenchymal stem cells are studied for their ability to moderate the immune activity that keeps the bowel inflamed.
- Research examines how cell signalling may affect inflammation and the tissue environment. Evidence and clinical outcomes vary by application.
- Treatment is delivered intravenously, so the cells reach the affected bowel through the circulation.
- Cells are prepared in our own laboratory and used fresh, never frozen.
- The protocol is written for your Crohn’s, your recent results and your goals.
Concerns to discuss with your care team
Abdominal pain and cramping
Pain that arrives with meals, or without them, and rarely leaves for long.
Urgency and unpredictable bowels
Frequent, urgent trips and a map of every bathroom between home and anywhere.
Exhaustion
The tiredness of a body fighting itself, and of not absorbing what you eat.
Eating and going out on its terms
Menus scanned for risk. Invitations weighed against the distance to a bathroom.
Who may be a candidate
Adults with diagnosed Crohn’s disease whose symptoms persist despite conventional medication may be evaluated. Candidacy is decided by our physicians after a medical review of your history, your current treatment, recent blood work and any colonoscopy or imaging results, never by a form.
Treatment is not offered where there is a bowel obstruction or abscess needing urgent care, active infection, certain cancers, or other conditions identified in review. Timing around a flare is decided by your physicians.
