How stem cell therapy may help with hip pain
The hip absorbs the strain of walking, sitting, standing and stairs, all day, every day. When cartilage wears or the soft tissue around the joint is injured, the body often cannot restore it fully on its own. Rest, medication and cortisone manage the symptoms. They do not change the environment inside and around the joint.
- Mesenchymal stem cells are studied for their ability to calm chronic inflammation in the hip and its surrounding tissue.
- Research examines how cell signalling may affect inflammation and the tissue environment. Evidence and clinical outcomes vary by application.
- Treatment is delivered to the joint or the affected tissue under imaging guidance.
- Cells are prepared in our own laboratory and used fresh, never frozen.
- The protocol is written for your hip, your imaging and your goals.
Concerns to discuss with your care team
Persistent hip or groin pain
Present for months, and no longer explained by a single bad day.
Outer hip pain
The ache over the bony point of the hip that flares when you lie on it, as in bursitis.
Stiffness and lost motion
Bending, crossing your legs, getting in and out of the car.
A changed stride
Shorter steps, a limp, and the muscles around the hip weakening from disuse.
Who may be a candidate
Adults with chronic hip pain or injury, including early osteoarthritis, labral tears, bursitis and tendonitis, who have not found lasting relief from physical therapy, medication or injections, may be evaluated. Candidacy is decided by our physicians after a medical review of your history and imaging, never by a form.
Treatment is not offered where there is active infection, certain cancers, or other conditions identified in review.
