Shoulder Pain & Injury

For a shoulder caught in a cycle of inflammation that rest, therapy and injections have not broken.

An individual medical review. An informed decision.

How stem cell therapy may help with shoulder pain

Shoulder pain rarely resolves on its own because damaged tendon and joint tissue becomes trapped in a cycle of inflammation. Each flare adds a little scar tissue and takes a little motion. Medication, cortisone and physical therapy calm the symptoms. They do not break the cycle.

Concerns to discuss with your care team

Pain with reach and lift

Sharp with overhead movement, dull the rest of the day.

Night pain

The shoulder that wakes you when you roll onto it.

Weakness

Difficulty lifting, carrying or holding the arm out to the side.

Progressive stiffness

A shoulder that has tightened month by month, as in frozen shoulder.

Who may be a candidate

Adults with persistent shoulder pain or injury, including rotator cuff damage, tendonitis, labral tears and frozen shoulder, who have not found lasting relief from physical therapy, medication or injections, may be evaluated. Candidacy is decided by our physicians after a medical review of your history and imaging, never by a form.

Treatment is not offered where there is active infection, certain cancers, a fully retracted tendon tear, or other conditions identified in review.

Questions

Asked before, answered plainly.

Which shoulder problems do you evaluate?

Rotator cuff injury, tendonitis and impingement, labral tears, frozen shoulder and shoulder osteoarthritis. Your imaging review tells us which is driving your symptoms.

How is the treatment given?

Typically as an image-guided injection into the shoulder joint or the affected tendon, sometimes combined with intravenous delivery, in a single visit to our licensed clinic in San José.

I have had cortisone injections. Does that matter?

Tell us how many and when. Repeated steroid injections can affect tendon quality, and our physicians take that into account when reviewing your case.

When might I notice a change?

Responses vary. Some patients report changes within weeks; others over several months. We follow up with you on a set schedule.

Who is not a candidate?

Active infection, certain cancers, a full-thickness tendon tear with retraction, and some other conditions rule treatment out. Your medical review determines candidacy, not this page.
