An individual medical review. An informed decision.

How stem cell therapy may help with lupus

Lupus is an immune system that has lost the ability to tell its own tissue from a threat. It can inflame the joints, skin, blood vessels, kidneys and more, in flares that come and go. Medication suppresses the immune response across the board, often at a cost, and does not settle the inflammation underneath.

Concerns to discuss with your care team

Fatigue that rest does not fix

Exhaustion out of proportion to the day, present before it starts.

Joint pain and swelling

Aching, tender joints, often the hands, wrists and knees, that shift from day to day.

Skin and sun sensitivity

Rashes across the face and body, and skin that reacts to an hour outdoors.

Living around the flares

Plans made and cancelled. A life organised around a condition that will not keep a schedule.

Who may be a candidate

Adults with diagnosed lupus whose fatigue, joint pain or flares persist despite conventional medication may be evaluated. Candidacy is decided by our physicians after a medical review of your history, your current treatment, recent blood work and any organ involvement, never by a form.

Treatment is not offered during an unstable flare with organ involvement, or where there is active infection, certain cancers, or other conditions identified in review.

Questions

Asked before, answered plainly.

Does organ involvement change whether I can be treated?

Yes, and it is one of the first things your medical review looks at. Lupus affecting the kidneys, heart or lungs needs a careful read of your recent results before our physicians decide whether and when treatment is appropriate.

How is the treatment given?

By intravenous delivery, so the cells circulate throughout the body rather than to one site. Lupus is a whole-body condition and the route reflects that. A single visit to our licensed clinic in San José.

Do I stop my current medication?

Not on our account. Your existing treatment is reviewed as part of your medical evaluation, and any change is a decision for you and your rheumatologist together.

When might I notice a change?

Responses vary. Some patients report changes within weeks; others over several months. We follow up with you on a set schedule after treatment.

Who is not a candidate?

An unstable flare with organ involvement, active infection, certain cancers, and some other conditions rule treatment out. Your medical review determines candidacy, not this page.
